IRG, SmartBlock to launch pilot program for curbside recycling in Erie later this year

International Recycling Group, the company planning to open a large-scale plastics sorting facility in Erie, has partnered with tech startup SmartBlock Beverages FZ LLZ to develop a smartphone app to drive an Uber-like curbside recycling program, which it hopes to pilot in the city later this year.

SmartBlock, based in Dubai, has already created the environmental sustainability app ZeLoop, which asks individuals to collect used plastic bottles and upload a photo of the material being dropped off at a recycling center in exchange for digital tokens that can be redeemed for rewards.
